1) Get a Free Headset Cell Phone

Laws banning using a cell phone while driving are in effect in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Washington and the District of Columbia.

One online retailer (Headsets) is offering free headsets to those who send the company a copy of their traffic citation -- for making calls while behind the wheel. Although many older drivers can't handle this type of multi-tasking, the free headset applies to all ages.

(2) Get Money for Buying a TV Converter Box

After February 17th, all TV transmissions will be digital. Anyone with an analog TV that uses an outdoor antenna or indoor rabbit ears to receive TV signals will need a special converter box.

Residents of nursing homes and assisted living can receive one $40 government coupon toward the purchase of the box.

The resident, his/her representative or a family member must fill out the application at: http://www.dtv2009.gov/.

Post office box holders are also eligible. They can apply for two coupons online or by calling: 888-388-2009.

A new Web site, www.medicare.gov/caregivers provides advice and answers for families hiring caregivers and for caregivers themselves.

It's run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. You'll find information about the complex system, services, organizations, legal issues and more.  

(4) Get Free Flu Shots

A growing number of clinics and hospitals across the country are now offering free (or very low-cost) flu shots.
